Terms & Conditions

Last updated September 22, 2026. These terms cover use of gentlyhandy.com and a request for small home repairs from Gently Handy, also called Gentleman’s Home Repair. They are the business rules for the website and for asking us to come out. They are not a contractor license, a bond, or an insurance certificate, and they are not a substitute for advice from a California attorney.

1. Who you are dealing with

Gently Handy works in South Orange County, California, including Rancho Santa Margarita, Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Ladera Ranch, Trabuco Canyon, Foothill Ranch, and Coto de Caza. We do not publish a street address.

2. What a visit is

A visit is a small household repair: furniture assembly, shelving, a small appliance install, blinds, door repair, concrete patching, hanging art or shelves, pressure washing, or a kitchen faucet swap of the kind described on this site. You tell us the task. We say whether it is a fit before we schedule it.

We do not promise same-day arrival. A message on the form or a phone call is a request, not a confirmed appointment, until we agree on the task and a time.

3. California’s limit on minor work

California Business and Professions Code section 7048, as in effect for 2026, generally leaves one minor project outside the contractor-license law only when all of these are true: the aggregate price for labor, materials, and other items on that one project is less than $1,000; the work is casual, minor, or inconsequential; and the work does not require a building permit. The exemption does not cover a slice of a larger project, and it does not cover splitting one job into smaller contracts to stay under the line.

Gently Handy does not advertise as a licensed contractor and does not publish a Contractors State License Board license number. If a job needs a building permit, a licensed trade, or a total of $1,000 or more for labor, materials, and other items, we will not take it. Please hire the appropriate licensed trade. We will not divide one project into smaller tickets to avoid that line.

The statute also says the minor-work exemption does not apply to a person who advertises in a way that indicates they are a contractor, or who employs someone else to perform or assist in the work. Nothing on this website is an offer to act as a licensed contractor.

4. What we do not take

  • Work that needs a building permit.
  • A repipe, a water heater, a slab leak, or other plumbing or electrical work beyond a small fixture task we have agreed to in advance.
  • A project that is only one piece of a larger remodel.
  • Any job we tell you is outside a small handyman visit.

5. Price

This website does not list rates. The price for a particular job, if we agree to do it, is discussed for that job before the work starts. Labor, materials, and other items on one project count together toward the California limit in section 3.

6. What you provide

Unless we agree otherwise, you buy the furniture, blinds, faucet, or other parts and have them at the home, with the hardware and instructions. Clear the work area and make the shutoffs, parking, and the room available at the agreed time. Photos sent ahead of time are how we judge the scope.

7. Changes

If the task turns out to be different from what was described, we will stop and talk before doing the extra work. We may decline the rest of the job if the new scope needs a permit, a licensed trade, or crosses the minor-work limit.

8. Cancellation

Tell us as soon as you need to cancel or move a visit. If a written agreement is signed at your home and California’s home-solicitation rules apply, you keep the cancellation rights in Civil Code sections 1689.5 and following, including the three-business-day period, and the longer period the statute gives a buyer who is 65 or older. We will not ask you to give up a cancellation right that California law does not allow to be waived.

9. Care and limits

We will do the agreed task carefully and leave the immediate work area tidy. We are not promising the result of a licensed contractor, and this page does not claim that Gently Handy is bonded or insured. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, willful injury, or any other responsibility that California law does not allow a business to limit.

10. The website and your message

The contact form asks for your name, email, the kind of job, and a message. It is sent so we can reply. We do not sell that information. Do not send payment card numbers or a government ID through the form.

Checking “I agree to the Terms & Conditions” and sending the form means you have had a chance to read this page and you want us to respond. The checkbox does not sign you up for a newsletter. This site does not run a mailing list.

11. Using the site

The text and photos are for learning what Gently Handy does and for contacting us. Do not copy the site and present it as your own business. Local stock photos illustrate the kind of task. They are not a photograph of a specific job we did for a named customer, and this site does not publish customer reviews.

12. Changes to these terms

If we change this page, the date at the top will change. The version on the site on the day you send a message is the version that covers that request. A later visit is covered by the version then on the site, unless we have agreed something else in writing for that visit.

13. California law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without using conflict-of-law rules to pick another state’s law. If a court finds one sentence unenforceable, the rest of the page still applies.
